This past Sunday, my Dad shared with his church family @sherwoodchurch that he has prostate cancer. Our family was caught off guard by this news, but we know the Lord wasn’t. To steal a line from John Piper, we know there are #NoMaverickCells. “God controls every molecule in the universe. He is God! There are no maverick cells outside His control.” Here’s how you can pray: 1) That the Father would be glorified in whatever He chooses to do 2) That God would give wisdom, grace, and strength for each day 3) That God will give the doctors wisdom from the Great Physician 4) That the focus of our family and friends will be on Christ and Him glorified, first and foremost 5) For an unending comfort and peace for my Mom and Dad as they face a lot of unknowns Jesus is our hope! “Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let Your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in You.” Psalms 33:20-22

It’s the little things. Like charming new coffee shops and lovely florals and catching up with dear friends and breakfast for dinner and hitting the snooze button one more time and funny group texts and a sweet little smile looking back at me across the table. When it seems like too many people are experiencing too many hurts, these are the things that count. Count it all JOY. Count it all LESSONS. Count it all.

I just needed to get away. To clear my head. One thing they don’t tell you about foster care is the massive amount of logistics you have to juggle. It’s a tireless routine of managing schedules and appointments and home visits and court dates and emotions. And I just needed a minute of silence. To do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, with no plan or schedule in mind. So I came to the mountains alone. It was exactly what I needed. And now I’m leaving ready to take on whatever comes next. Oh and while I was here, I wrote a blog I’ve been working on in my head for the past few weeks, addressing some of the incorrect misconceptions about foster care.
